maintenance manual

I am going on my first RTW starting in 2 weeks and decided it would be a good idea to bring sometype of maintenance book. I was wondering if anybody knows of a good do-it-yourself maintanence book, kind of a do it all book for dummies. I have a 2004 R1150GS.

my website if anyone is interested

Haynes & Clymer manuals are your only real option. I'd go for the Haynes as the latest version includes 2004 1150 models whilst I think the Clymer only covers the older 1100's.

If the book is too bulky to take with you, familiarise yourself with the bike as much as possible & photocopy the most important pages to take with with you i.e. colour copies of the wiring diagrams etc.

As long as you can service the bike yourself, change tyres, repair punctures, remove fuel tank, replace all filters, have a vague understanding of the electrics & carry sensible spares, you should be okay.

Have a great trip & post a report at some point, preferably with lots of photos.

Steve

hello,

i don t know those new injection machines but i have the same search for my r80g/s.
you can also find the original bmw repair manual on internet or cdrom, which i m trying to do for my old machine.

depending on your preferences, capacity to understand each repair manual (bmw, haynes, clymer ...) : it s worth comparing each repair manual and see with which one you could sort out your problems at best on the road (for example here in france we have "RMT" repair manual and i don t find them well made or explained) ... and and of course your ability to find them, which is, in my case for my bike to get the original bmw repair manual, is not easy.

happy trails

i found a brochure at a bmw dealer and scanned it : see it on :

http:// f5.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/4JypQlPiTQ5V0g_yCcjRTPfQ7gMjOi1XJT7ENiUA2xSevwoo_9 1y_-kvOjURSg1OHGTy0uYd6rBmhck5tJhZbNPJX1_7-wY/ref.%20manuels%20de%20reparation%20bmw.bmp

they give the references of some bmw bikes(2v, 4v) repair manuals (paper or cdrom)

with those references numbers, you can go to your bmw dealer and order your repair manual.

happy trails

You can make your scan 10% of the current size if you crop the unnecessary white space and resave it as a GIF.

I know you have already left but there are some online PDFs here:

Your web site mentions you'll be in the UK in June. Are you going to be at the HU meeting this month?

Hi guys,

regarding the R80GS, which repair manual would you prefer, Clymer or Haynes? One comment on the Amazon website was pretty critical about Haynes.
