EFI reliability F 650 GS Dakar
Hello Forum
my wife and I are currently out in Central Asia, both on Dakar. Our maintenace books says something about getting the computer docked every 10.000 km to read out the faults. Unfortunately the next BMW dealer seems to be in Beijing, Teheran or Istanbul. A bit too far off, being in Bishkek now. Has anyone a clue how long the efi will be running without being checked by a dear BMW computer? We have gone 15.000 k up to now and will hopefully reach Istanbul the next 5.000 km Karen + Goetz ------------------ ïóòü = öåëü |

It will be fine as long as nothing fails .. and you'll know if that happens so don't worry about getting the codes read out. It is not life or death .. unlike petrol and oil.
The idea is that if something 'goes faulty' (but not long enought to have an effect on the running) they will be able to replace it before you notice. Usually (90%?) the faults are dirty connectors ... if it stops running right clean all the connectors as a first step.

Wonna learn a bit more about my girlfriends bike. Also a F650 GS, but no Dakar, would have been too high.
Those connections you mention. Do you mean all over the bike or on one specific place? Are there any drawings online where you get a technical overview of the bike? |

Any connectors associated with the EFI.
From the battery through the fuses to the ignition switch and the kill switch to the computer. Then the outputs to th coil/s, sparkplugs and the injector/s. Then the inputs from the temperature sensors, CO2 sensors, throttle possition sensor, MAP, Air pressure sensor, Air temperature sensor, Engine temperature sensor .. etc.
