Din Socket to Standard Lighter Socket Adaptor 12v/24v

Hi guys
I am struggling to find a reliable solution to the sockets that BMW provides for connecting accessories like tyre inflator etc.

The DIN socket comes with the bike under the seat. I bought an adaptor to use plugs that will fit in to Standard Lighter Socket Adaptor 12v/24v. The bloody thing won't work. Some loose contact some where.

I am going on a long distance trip and need to carry some accessories that need power output. Could somebody suggest a reilable solution please.

Thanks

Badra

The mentioned DIN socket is switched, it turns off after a while when ignition is off. It also turns off if you exceed max load (5A).

Sounds like you have a bmw 1200 gs
Consider buying as many din plugs as you need and fit to your devices
Fit extra din sockets ensuring you place a fuse as close to battery as possible for each and fuse rate according to needs.
It's all 12volt - I do not know what you mean by 12/24 volts

Can I not stop the DIN socket cut off such that I can run a portable air compressor?
Please help

I'm not a fan of compressors.
The easiest way is to install a DIN-socket wired directly to the battery (via a fuse) for your compressor. Your friendly BMW-dealer or another workshop can help you with this modification.

Thanks for the advice. Will do that then.

Please clarify why does a adventure bike have this stupid 5A cut off. We need to check and fill tyre air pressure in remote areas.

Hi
It is a BMW safety thing I think, thecurrent limit prevents some heated jackets and all(?) air pumps from working. And you may not find that out until the pump is under load, when pumping at full pressure. So I hard wire my power outlets direct to the battery. Also it allows you to charge with the ignition off, like cell or iPods at nite. Easy enought with some larger ring terminals and wire splices. A must do modification on a newer BMW.

For safety you should always have a fuse. 10 Amps should be enough for one socket. 15 A max. The fuse should stop an electrical fire from destroying your bike.

Because its powered from the control unit. The bike has no fuses as standard (unless you have bmw aux lights) so all power and cut offs is run from the control units.
