Desperately needing a rear shock
I am/was (...... hopefully not) heading to Mexico shortly and discovered that my rear shock is done. I am looking everywhere to find a replacement at a reasonable cost. Used would be fine, rebuilt would be fine as well. Most new shocks are crazy $$$'s and delivery times that don't work.
I am riding a 2012 BMW R1200GSA, needing a rear shock. I can be reached here or: Hank Krawczyk 1-250-837-6657 joha@telus.net Revelstoke, B.C. Thanks in advance!!!!! Hank K |
I would look on eBay, or plan on picking one up on the way south. Be sure to know what year range is the same as yours. Stuff is often sold as "fits 2010" - but is that the same as 2012 or not? I THINK that 2004-12 shocks are the same, but confirm!
Are you solo or two up? If two up, sorry but my advice is to spend the money on a good after market new. Too many stories of loaded two-up rear shock failures. Spend the money once, and done. |
Thanks Grant! Nothin' on eBay, looking on Amazon, rebuilders, about anywhere I can try. Only me on the bike but loaded for travelling. Thanks for the advice. I will keep at it!
Thanks again Hank |
It's an easily rebuilt shock.
It's a good quality shock and worth rebuilding. The cost in the UK is around £150 for a full rebuild.. I suspect the same in USD. You could get a stiffer spring whilst its being rebuilt too. |
Thanks Ted
I have been in touch with a shop in California that will rebuild the OEM shock. A good option at this time, and a 1 week turnaround. Thanks for your comments Hank |
