Cogol. BMW super-frame

Often I hear people complain about the sub-frame of the beemer. I have found the perfect solution and more... Much more..

A guy I know is a beemer-maniac.. but he was not satishfied with the frame. He is a smart guy, so he designed a new frame. He made it stronger, better and lighter than it was before. (like the bionic man)
It can hold any BMW engine (up to 96) from the dual-valve type.
It can hold any rear and front fork you want, even paralever or any other brand. And... he improved the paralever so it will last as long as the bike itself. (one strategicly placed grease-nippel)

It can hold any fueltank you want... Well I guess you get the picture.. I's really a super-frame.
I have seen it with my own eye's and I think it's bomb-proof and weigh's less then half the original frame-weight

The frame itself has been aproved by the dutch autorities, and I can tell you: they are strict!

And the good thing: He made a template and can produce the frame's on demand (I think he even has a few in the barn)

This sounds like good stuff (half the weight and stronger too - WOW!)- any photographs?

A word of caution to UK riders...

This frame will not have a frame number - and will probably need the DVLA to inspect your bike should you fit it as it is not the standard frame (even if it is better!).

I rebuilt my R100GS from 2 different bikes - frame from 1 bike, rest from another.

Unfortunately I was unable to use the frame's existing number as someone else was still using it! (I think they had scrapped the old frame thinking it was faulty after an accident, and bought another from BMW under insurance - then kept the old frame number which is still stamped on the frame I now own).

Fortunately I was able to get the bike verified as a standard model by the BMW club - this helped get the bike registered on an 'age related plate'. The best bit is that I could then add this new bike to my existing BMW policy for my K75 (of similar age) for a piffling £21 extra a year AND I avoided having a 'Q plate'.

Any none-standard frames will put you into 'Q-plate' territory with all its hassles and insurance problems...

A friend of mine hand-built a frame for his hand-built diesel bike - they issued a Q plate and the insurance was ridiculous!

Anyway, to summarise - I would reccomend discussing any major modifications (like a new non-standard frame) with the DVLA BEFORE buying/fitting it.

My contact was Rick Youd at the DVLA office in Nottingham - a nice guy and really helpful, but difficult to contact on the telephone.
