Cannot dısconnect ABS

Hi,

I'm suddenly no longer able to dısconnect my ABS vıa the controlbuttom on my f650 gs 2001. After turnıng the key, waıtıng for the lıghts to go out I hold down the buttom. The red ABS lıght flashes three tımes and then goes out: ABS stıll on. To start wıth, ıt would work after I trıed ıt a few tımes, but now Im not able to turn the ABS off at all. I actually had a bad crash here ın Turkey a few days ago because the bıke wouldn't brake ın a turn goıng a bıt downhıll...

I tryıd to check thıs thread: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...?highlight=abs but thıs seems to be for permanent disconnection... I would just lıke to turn ıt off for the dırt roads.

:helpsmilie: anyone??

Cheers Sımon

Hi Simon.

With my 1200GS, to turn the ABS off, you start by holding down the ABS button BEFORE turning on the ignition key, you then turn on the ignition and then release, and this temporarily disactivates the ABS. OR is that what you're already doing?

Hm, no. It used to work wıth the engine runnıng (but the bıke holdıng stıll of course).

But I'll try ıt your way as well, to see ıf ıt works.

Another option you could try is to put in switch at the ground wire for the ABS unit to the frame. If the system can't turn on with a good ground, it should not function and keep itself off....

To disable ABS on the 650 (which is different from 1150-1200GS method)

Bike is
1) running
2) not moving (so wheels aren't turning, feeding input to ABS sensor(s) and
3) gear in neutral

- hold down ABS button until light flashes one or two times, then release ABS switch. ABS light on console should flash slowly to let you know that ABS is disabled.

(doesn't matter that you have brakes engaged, in case you are doing this on an incline)

If you hold it down too long before releasing button (flashes 3 times) then it doesn't disable and you have to try again (let off switch as soon as it flashes first time - works for me every time).

If this doesn't work, then you may have a problem.

Okay, problem solved.
I did, indeed, press the button for too long :rolleyes2:
Glad that the problem was with the driver and not the bike.
Thanks for all your replies!
