Bosch and the ignition cannister

I have just overhauled a spare ignition cannister (as a spare) and fitted a new Hall effect transistor. As it was originally in a bike fire and melted, I need the small electrical connector to go with it. Anyone know of the Bosch part number or got one I could beg/borrow/steal?

If you find the numbers please post them here.

Greetings Tim

This link has info about a homemade tester for the ignition cannisters

http://robfrankham.co.uk/bike/vane_s...er_circuit.htm

He talks about the mating connector being available from

VWP - connector housings

I'm not sure if they have the correct sex connector on this page, I'm guessing you would need a 3 pole male and that's not shown but an email/phone call to them might be worthwhile.

These connectors are called "Junior Timer" or "Junior Power Timer" it appears that AMP has the licence to manufacture them so they be worth a shot as well

Good Luck

Hi,

Here you go:
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...oken-itu-41532

To ask for Bosch spare-part no., is useless since they discontinued the production and stocking of them back in 2003, and do not have any spares left.
Perhaps a BMW garage somewhere on the globe may have some parts - they will know what parts you need.

But, as I presented in a rapsodic manner above - we with ITUs are F'ed by Bosch/BMW!
Would appreciate very much to read how you repaired your ITU - I'm picking up a Honeywell hall sensor this week to test it (see my thread above).

Bosch and the ignition cannister

Gentlemen, thank you for the excellent info. I shall send for a connector for my spare but in the meantime test mine using the test box cct. shown. I used R100GS Auto Advance Refurb for the refurb details. He doesn't take it beyond removing the internals. You must disassemble this to replace the Hall Effect transistor but this is self evident. If you've got this far then a bit further isn't too difficult. I got my transistor from Jaycar and it came with 2 rivets, again a fairly simple task to install.

If anyone has problems getting the transistor, I'm sure I could supply you one at cost but you might have to wait a week or so. Jaycar have a website - jaycar.com.au and they do mail order.

ignition cannister - follow up

I have been unsuccessful in obtaining the small electrical connector. The company in the UK only do the wiring loom side. They can't get the can side except from Tyco in the US who reuire a minimum order of 13,000. I'll just get another type of 3 pin connector and work from there.

dc lindberg 28 Apr 2009 06:38

Tim,
You found the ITU 3-pin connector?!
Impressed!

I've tried to find it too, but failed. What I have looked at as possible replacements are sockets from Home | Hella KGaA Hueck & Co. , www.bosch.de and ELFA -- Elektronikdistributör i norra Europa . There is a store in England also (just forgotten its name; Mr. Fasterner?) - what about Radio Shacks stuff?

Remember to seal whatever connection you choose - water will follow the wire down from the ICU (water seems have a nasty tendency to find its way into just about everything...). Silicon filling of new socket is what I plan to use, combined with "shrinking tube wire isolation"(?).

Ian,
This link that you published is not accessible now... it used to be... temporary?
