BMW System case weight capacity

I have the standard BMW system cases on my R1150R - which I suspect are the same, more or less, as those for the GS.

I recall the manual stating they have a 10 kg limit. I can't remember if this means that they can be filled with 10 kg, or if the total weight including the cases is a 10 kg max. The cases weigh ~2 kg empty, so this would make a huge difference for me!

Does anyone know which of the above it is??

What ever it is don't go much more then this. They stay on OK even twice the weight allowed, but once you hit a biiig pothole at huge speed you see how the pannier(s) fly like a bird and lands like a piano... Mine did once.

The system panniers are so small acctually that you can't fit much weight in there, it has to be something very dense to get them loaded much more than allowed.

Thanks Margus.
I have the cases packed with a total weight of 10 kg (case included). I also have 5 kg roll bags trapped on top of them. I little weighty, but this is what is.

Cheers,

Holding system cases on securely

A trick we ALWAYS used on the OLD system cases on the airheads - tie a BMW tie-down strap around the case and frame, tight - makes them less likely to fly - and yes they did, regularly, loaded over capacity or not. The joke was, that was why BMW shipped the bikes with those straps - they were part of the standard equipment to hold the cases on! :)
