Bing replacement float bowl kit for R100GSPD
Greetings All
Has anyone fitted one of the independant float bowl kits from Bing Carburettor to a R100GSPD? I'm planning to do a trip down through the Americas and I'm wondering if the alcohol resistant floats are a worthwhile piece of preventative maintenance. Does it change the method of tuning the carbs? Final question Is it worthwhile to change to alcohol resistant fuel hose? Thanks Ian Jurgens |

I put the alcohol resistant floats in before my RTW ride. The kit is expensive. I think Brazil is the only place that puts a significant amount of alcohol in the gas (though I could be wrong). I'd say if you aren't going there, it's not worth it. Mine were installed by a good, professional BMW mechanic and they have still given me ongoing problems.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Since I posted this I found two other web references that did not give this float kit a good rating.

I had that kit on my 87 R80 and it worked fine. When I got my 92 R100R I moved the kit over to that, it still worked OK. Later I put 40mm Bings on the R100R and I had some seepage from one bowl. I replaced that bowl and it still seeped. I then bought a new kit for the 40 mm Bings and every thing is great.
Is it worth the money ? May be not, but its not the first thing I have put on my bike that I may not need. |
