battery acid

Hi there,
I got my bike serviced in Bangkok and they never reconected the overflow hose to the battery, I'm now in india and have descovered after washing the mud off that the acid has leaked down and eaten away the spark plug covers, I've washed the acid off reconected the hose and covered whats left of the plug covers in good tape, it seems to be working fine, I cant get the parts replaced until Iran, dose anyone know if this solution will last as i cant get replacement covers here.
Yours hopefully

Hi, what works is good, is it not. U dont say what bike it is. A man who can travel India, has the ability. Well done. all the best Brian B:thumbup1:

As long as you reconnected the battery hose, taped the wires up and if the bike starts up and runs ok, then you really shouldn't have any problems.

If I was doing that bodge job I'd also put a few cable ties over the tape just to make sure it doesn't start to come undone, and just remember to add it to your check list when doing your daily bike examinations.

But apart from that Welcome to the Cambodian Field Fixing Crew, the home of Bodgers the World over.

You might want to look at getting a seales Odyssey Battery PC-310, fits the bike with little to no modification, has a much higher krank power requires no topping up at all and best of all it doesn't p*ss acid all over the bike when you drop it.

Hope that helps.

thanks bud

the thing is bud Ive never droped it and i dont really know why the acid leaked in the first place, I have a tank bag and ive noticed that it get's really hot underneath it and the bat is right below, do you think this could be the problem
thanks for the advice

It may not have leaked but just gassed as it was being charged on the bike .
All batteries ,unless they are the sealed gel type , will do this.

See if you can find a replacement HT lead and plug cap locally ,check the manual to see if you need a resistor type cap .

Did you go to the service place that is just up from the zoo?, you go to democracy monument take the turning by the McDonalds and ride down that road, then you turn right after about 3kms and it's 100 yards on the right hand side.

Can't remember the guys name but it will be on the GT Rider website, try there as he can get things for the f650gs, I remember because he was put into my dealership database (on my Laptop currently being fixed). Know this because I ride a Dakar, if not try motoworks as they will ship the kit over to you in about 5 days.

There's quite a bit to do in Bangers for a week, so you shouldn't be too bored.

i would imagine its fine, but i would think you could pick up a hose at any sort or market and install it easily
