Airhead gearbox overhaul
Can anybody tell me where I can get hold of a Distance Plate to measure the end play of the shafts in a gearbox when renewing the bearings? I've seen this mentioned in Joergs Motorcycle Pages, where he gives a superb rundown on bearing renewal. Does anyone have one for hire, perhaps the BMW Club, for instance?

Hi John,
bmw club has an end plate that you can hire, measurements are best done with a depth mic not the "guessing stick" bmw list, bryan |

Hi Bryan,
Great-many thanks for that. Yep-I've got a depth mike, although like most of my stuff it's in Imperial rather than metric. Just can't imagine what the BM Club are doing with a guessing stick, though, dammit we're supposed to be dealing in midge's-dick dimensions here, (a technical term) surely.
