2008 F650gs motor stuck

Me and a couple of friends took a daytrip on saturday.
My friend had a wobble in some soft gravel and ended up on the ground. When the bike hit the ground the throttle got buried in the sand and was full open. My friend jumped up and ran to the bike to turn it off. This took him about 5 seconds.
We helped him raise the bike and we took care of the damage as best we could. Then he sat on the bike put on his helmet and when he pressed the start button nothing happened except for a little click in the starter.
The motor was stuck.
We tried putting the bike in top gear and turn the rear wheel but no the motor would not move.
We had to ring his son and have him pick up the bike with a trailer.
On the way back my other friend had a flat front tire on his KTM 990 so we put that bike on the trailer as well but that is another story.
When he got back home with his BMW he took out the spark plugs and tried to turn the motor but it is firmly stuck.
My question is this: Has anyone had a similar experience with his BMW? or do you know what might be wrong?

This could be a very expensive fix. There is not a BMW motorcycle dealer here in Iceland

Don't know what would cause it relative to that bike but the most literal "engine stuck" thing is when the piston becomes overheated, expands, and seizes in place, which is never a good thing because you have to bore it out. But it seems unlikely if it was really only five seconds, unless it was hot to begin with and maybe (guessing here) it didn't get the lubrication it needed while in that position. I've never heard of anyone making a f650GS's engine seize though.

Possibly the clutch is stuck engaged and the transmission in or between gears.

Can you put the bike in Nuetral ?? Can you turn the engine from the rotor (as you would for doing the valve clearances) ?

I'm guessing here but if the bike is in gear and you can turn the back wheel then it isn't the engine that is seized but something else?

The gearbox works fine and the clutch too. The bike goes into neutral and we can click trough the gears.
The thing is we cannot turn the motor
The rear wheel will not turn when the bike is in gear. I am a strong guy and I used all my strength with the bike in top gear but the motor will not move.
We tried turning it backwards and forwards with two men on the wheel.
The time it took for him to stand up and turn off the bike could not have been more than 5 seconds. He jumped up and ran to the bike.

Very strange.
Could it be Hydro-Locked? (with fuel,oil or water?) This can happen if the bike lay on its side for five minutes or more. Seems unlikely, but worth checking. With plugs out it should have had oil or fuel coming out if Hydro-locked.

I would get the bike to a qualified mechanic, must be some independent BMW guys in Iceland? In the meantime, do not FORCE anything to turn the motor over. doh Might bend a rod. ($$$$)

Drain the oil, look for particles.

Try and turn the engine with the crank/rotor bolt !!

Looks like you're going to be doing a partial engine strip down.

Quite possibly seized piston due to high revs and oil starvation, the oil pick-up has been out of the oil as the bike was on its side, so no oil circulating. Cylinder head off and have a look at the bore, if it is seized, oversize piston and a rebore.....

Sorry to hear of your problem.
I think oothef has the right idea, pickup would have been out of the oil when the bike was on its side.
Most likely you have a siezed engine.
I seen the exact same thing happen to a small Yamaha last month.
