1200GS rear transmission oil leak
Another problem on the bike, the O ring on the rear drive appears to have given up the ghost and I have away to go to the next BMW shop. Anyone know of a substitute oil that I can use to top up the rear drive till I get to a dealer? Ride safe, Mike.

Hey Mike, was this O -ring on the transmission? I'm getting a small amount of oil leaking down on my rim coming from the rear axle boot pivot area while sitting over night.
Thanks for any info John [This message has been edited by jv3 (edited 23 April 2005).] |

Any oil that a car uses in the rear end will do fine. Basically 80w-90 gear oil or better.

i thought the 1200GS final drive was filled for life, is there a filler plug?
if it is filled for life expect the life of the final drive to be very short ! |
