1150 GS or 1150 Adventure - 2 up?
 

Have you owned a stock 1150 GS and the 1150 Adventure? I'm trying to decide which one will suit my purpose best. She'll be used for 2 up riding in Europe on good to bad asphalt roads. No RTW or third world trips planned for this puppy.
The appeal of the Adventure is the larger tank and adjustable suspension. I'm 6'3 so the extra saddle height on the Adv shouldn't be a problem.
I think the gearing on the 1150 GS may be a better option for 95% of the time.
I'm wondering what the Adventure saddle is like for the wife compared to the 1150GS?
Grateful for any feedback you might have regarding the pros & cons of both.

Adventure has better aerodynamics for long and fast road riding.
Fuel tank is an advantage if there is not that many gas stations where you go, but it is a dissadvantage cause it is extra weight for when the bike tilts to a side.
The 6th gear on GSA is an advantge if you are loaded and you will rarely feel it is too short. If your total weight will be a lot, I think the gearing of the GSA is better suited.

For me, GSA was way too high even I bought the low seat, but when fully loaded and 2 up, it would be a good reason to get it and an advantage on ground clearance if you will ride bad roads or off road.

GS seat (double, split) is more comfortable for the pillion.

Hi, im new to this site but i think i have the answer for you, i have a 1150 gs and a adventurer.Until i got the Adventurer i loved the GS, now its the Adventurer that i ride everywhere its so much better to ride and its the gearing that makes it so easy. As far as the seat goes a sheepskin will fix that.

If you're not too tall, then the best & cheapest option is to buy the regular 1150GS & then retro-fit the Adventure tank.

This combines the twin seat set-up of the GS & the increased fuel range of the Adventure. Drilling a 6mm hole about 1/3 of the way down the filler neck increases capacity by another 2 litres.

Buy a used Adventure tank shell & fit your existing GS cap, filler neck & internals to reduce costs. Bending a slight radius in to the float arm will delay the low fuel warning light coming on - did this to mine, 32 litre capacity & light comes on with 4.5 to 4.75 litres left.
