1150 cylinders

how warm do the sticking out bits on an 1150GS get? my mate reckons hes going to wire a metal dish on top of a cylinder and warm food up in it, like he did on landrover engines in the army.

is he an idiot or am i for laughing at him?

I don't think it would be good for the bike.
With out any air flow over the heads and through the oil cooler it could do some damage.
But one time I did see a R1100GS left at idle. Both pipes were glowing red hot.
If he were to tie a sausage to the pipes it may work.

i thought so.
ive had my XT600 downpipes glowing red hot too, a very pretty dull red but probably not very good for the bike as i started up on choke and left it by mistake, racing away.

lo and behold, a huge co-incidence and all that, on the TV last night i saw some odd hippy using his wagon engine to cook with, had a fish wrapped in foil with a bit of water, perched on his exhaust manifold. he was using a cookbook called "manifold recipes" or similar, might have to try and get hold of it for a laugh.....

ive just searched for it in amazon books, its called "manifold destiny" and the cheapest was $44 SH, too much really.

Yes you can cook your dinner in the engine bay while you drive a car..it just has a funny smell to it when its time to eat it. Why doesnt your friend use a stove? what happens if the water boils and spills onto his thongs while riding?
