04' GS Rod Bearing?
 

On my baja trip my bike started making a new noise after it's warmed up. It sounds like a rod bearing to me. Am I just paranoid at having spent so much on the bike? Is it a noise associated with break in? The bike has 17k miles on it, I bought it with 10k. I used Mobil 1 15/50 at 13k and just changed the oil again at 17k (4k miles in between changes). I've also completed the valve adjustments right on time. Thanks for any info/experience anyone has with this. It's still under warranty but I'd like to get as much info as possible before going to the dealership.

Had the same thing happen to me recently but managed to fix it myself with the aid of the thread I've linked to below:

Read it all, inc. the other links within the thread. Basically, the fix involved buying & fitting the uprated l/h cam chain tensioner. It has a 30-40% stiffer spring & a smaller oil drain hole (it's tensioned by both spring & hydraulic pressure).

It worked for me, I was getting quite annoyed with my bike, this solved it. Only issue is the cost, old part in the UK was £45, new part is £128, I paid £ 104 in Germany but there's since been a price increase I believe? Worth the effort & cost, especially if you can fit it yourself to reduce costs IMO.

Great news, thanks. It's still under warranty so I'll see if I can't get BMW to fix it. It's a great bike but for the money you spend on them something like that should be covered under the warranty. If not I'm glad that I can fix it myself.
