Timor L'Este, Dili, Accomodation

we luckily found a super place to stayu in Dili after been hassled at East Timor Backpackers:
fully equipped private apartment in local environment (many pigs, chicken, ducks and cats). the place is someting between a local village, a chaotic truck-workshop and a beautiful plant-nursery.
Ms. Dos Reis Horta, Marscarenhas Vera Cruz (thats the streetname), thats close to the UN-head, 1km from DHL

15USD for as many people as u like.

the family is super welcoming and its perfect for working on bikes as well.

Excellent, thanks for posting that. I wish we could have stayed there. Spent far too much money on hotels!

I had a bit of trouble using your strangely formatted coordinates. Is this the correct location?

transalpinesabine 21 Jul 2010 13:37

Almost!
you drive from your point maybe 100 m to south same road, then its exactly on the corner on your right hand. theres no signs, across the road are 2 "supermarkets".

try google earth!

cheers!

Sorry, both GE and MapSource barf at the format of the coords you have given. There are two decimal points in there and I can't make sense of it. Can you please give us the coords in decimal format, i.e. S8.3xxx E125.xxxx. Also, N should be E.:oops2:

Many thanks,
Peter.

S 13.22.136
E 103.50.601

try this

TWO decimal points? Where do you get these coords from? MapSource and Google Maps don't understand them.

How about this: -8.56414, 125.57222?

transalpinesabine 23 Jul 2010 13:31

i have the info from google earth!
the last coordinates are pretty good, just drive 100 m more south then its exactly on the corner opposite the shops. on google earth you can see some houses around a courtyard, thats the place.

OK, how about this one:

-8.565151
125.572333

Is the name of the big road Marscarenhas Vera Cruz? I think on my map it's called something else, but then streets mostly seem to have been renamed at least once since the Portuguese left...

We found this place

So this has changed a bit because now there is a clinic on the front. But it is right in the curve and there is a sign for the clinic.
Bad news was: we went there to find the family and now they don not rent places anymore, they do only long term rent.
Good news: there is a nice family in the same place that have a flat with kitchen available. It's still 15$/night and this iss a perfect place to wash the bikes.
Very good news: there is also a portuguese bakery there, fresh good bread available in the morning!

Nilton is the guy that hosted us: niltonaniceto@gmail.com/ nilton.aniceto@dai.com

Ps: John, hope you'll read this, we lost your email adress!
