Ecuador: camping
 

A new camping site, Finca Sommerwind, has opened in northern Ecuador, just off the PanAmerican. Good for anyone coming from/going to Columbia, or using it as a base to visit the area - beautiful country. Place is at Lake Yahuarcocha, a few kms north of Ibarra. It's not always easy to find camping in this country so this place is a welcome addition.

I am an ecuadorian, but have been gone for a long time. I plan to start a trip through SA starting in August and would love the opportunity to stay there as I pass through.

Stayed the second weekend of january 2015 on the campsite of Finca Summerwind, so yes they are still open. Had a relaxed stay and met nice people/travellers. A very nice place.

This is indeed a really nice place to stay. We wanted to stay only one night, but ended up staying quite a few more. Nice campsite $5 per person, hot shower, washing machine, fast internet, great food and cold beers.
They have beautiful cabañas for two people with private bathroom and kitchen for $30.
They are building a communal kitchen now (06-07-2015)

Really friendly owner that will warmly welcome any overlander, whether on a bicycle, a motorbike, a car or a truck.
