Argentina, San Rafael, accommodation/board

We are a couple of Brits living on a 14 hectare fruit "finca" (Farm), in Mendoza Provience, Argentina. We have a family of five dogs, 2 geese, 3 ducks and sixteen chickens. We live 16kms from the town of treelined San Rafael, Mendoza Provience, with a view of the Andes from the bottom of our finca, on a clear day.

Anyone who is travelling through Argentina is more than welcome to come and stay with us, accommodation and board provided, in exchange for a few hours help per day.The help is not hard, skills in certain areas would be welcome (i.e building, construction, farming) but your attitude and the ability to work as a team with us is more important than specific skills. When you contact us, we can advise you of the kind of help you will be assisting us with during the period of your stay, remember this depends on the time of year.

From 2001 to 2004 we travelled around the world on two BMW R80GS motorbikes., We never lasted in the UK for more than a year when we returned from our big trip and so we sold up nearly everything we owned and moved to Argentina.

Since 2006 to date we have hosted over 50 independent motorbike travellers who have passed through San Rafael, they have helped us renovate our house, finca and garden in exchange for accommodation and board. Some stay for a couple of weeks and others have stayed as long as three months. Most of our visitors have returned and all have gone away as great friends.

We have also hosted motorbikers at our finca during the Dakar Rally, we allowed them to camp free in our grounds but they had to cater for themselves, One year there were 13 of them sat around my dinner table and we had a great night of Asado and wine.

Want to know what our previous visitors thought about helping us out, take a look at the following travellers stories here on Horizons Unlimited:
Ken and Carol Duval
Andy Berwick and Maya Vermeer
Grant Guerin and Julie Rose

Or you could check out :

If you are interested then please send a private message, I will then forward you more information and answer any questions you may have.We do not have internet on the finca so I only check my emails once a week.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
