Venice tips?

Hi -
We're off to Slovenia mid August, thought we'd visit Venice on the way past. Anybody out there got any tips for a decent hotel? Not necessarily desperately cheap, although that's always helpful, but any recommendations welcomed.

Others have suggested the water bus terminal has bike parking - is that the best option for a couple of days?

Thanks in advance
Neil

stay in Mestre nearby

Venice was too expensive so I stayed in Mestre and got cheap bus ticket there. I stayed at Park Hotel Ai Pini, reasonable cost at the time.

Very True what haggis says. No real point in facing the hassle and expense of staying in venice, when trains are so cheap that you can just commute in and make a couple of daytrips instead. There are also a couple of campsites nearby, one of them is right by the airport, about 25 minutes away by bus.
