Thanks

I live 50 miles from Dover Port. Email me if you need somewhere to stay the night prior to travel.
Mark.

Campsite

May be too late by now but we stopped on a campsite in folkestone called LITTLE SWITZERLAND which is about 7 miles from dover port. Rates are reasonable, biker friendly and easy access to port as just off main road.
I think its address is Wear Bay road and they have a website.

Hi Oz

The French side is easier if you want stealth camping - or just quietly use the Aires de Repos there. I've only had a police visit once, at 3.00 am, and they were just great when they saw I was just getting some sleep.

I dont know any campsites but I always stealth camp in France. England is impossible - too overcrowded, no suitable free space available. Campsites at stupid prices. Scotland is more free, if you're going there, but also ridiculous prices for campsites. Wales I don't know.

But you can always find a quiet corner in the ferry port buildings, either side of the Channel. The French side is more relaxed. Some ferry companies let you cross earlier than the time you booked - but not always, so just ask. It's easier for bikes.:scooter:NorfolkLines is often the cheapest ferry, from Dunkerque.

Good luck

I've just spent a night at Norfolkline's terminal at Dunkirk and while it's better than sleeping in the car park, facilities are minimal. Their policy on arriving early / late is no charge for one ferry either side of your booked time but £55.00 (or its € equivalent) for any other alteration.

On one of my nights spent in the Calais ferryport, the police repeatedly threw out a few drunks who had established themselves in the building.

When they got the final heave, I saw the drunks/vagrants had left behind good map of France,(but no wine or beer) which was much better than my free maps with the word FLUNCH superimposed all over. It was frustrating to find an area completely obscured which you wanted to look at; you just had to guess the way.( Oh, I also got the drunks' sleeping space. )

So I "collected " this vagrants' map and I use it to this very day, even though N.E. France has been brutally torn from the map. It reminded me of a map of Hungary which I had - a travelling friend said it was the worst map he'd ever seen. But it wasn't expensive.
Was it wrong to acquire a map from these poor unfortunates, these victims of cheap wine?......:blushing:
