Camping Suggestions for Baja Mexico

Hello all,
I am planning on being in Mexico at the beginning of November. I am going to go through Baja and i would love to camp as much as possible with a few hostel stays thrown in the mix. Any suggestions for camp grounds, hostels, or any information on staying safe while camping is welcomed. I am also looking for someone to ride with while crossing the border if anyone else is in the market! Thanks for your consideration, cheers!

Ask locals where to camp.

Buy the Baja Almanac or its equivelent. (Is there an equivalent?)

I've had lots of luck just camping on beaches where I ended up that evening.

I do speak with locals--usually shop owners (tiendas or restaurants) in the area.

Pete's Campo on the way into San Filipe - camp cheap on the beach.

Coco's corner for a drink - half way between Gonzaga and the paved road. Ask around before you set off as not always fuel in Gonzaga Pemex.
Tecolote Bay, out on the peninsular past La Paz, good place to wait for the ferry and although you can free camp quite a few RV's park up so you are safe and people will watch your tent if you go into town. The bar and restaurant is nice to.

We loved Baja

get the almanac, nothing comes close. ask the locals about road conditions, they can get nasty sometimes, and never ride after dark. they don't uses fences like we do and the animals congregate on the roads to soak up what is left of the heat.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
