Hi,

In the last 12 months I have met people who have paid from $250AU to $1500AU. the lowest was on ship, and rider travelled with the bike, an excellent deal(unfortunatly no-longer avalible). The $1500 was by air and about a week late... so price is not always = quality. average price appears to be about $400 - $500 AU.

From where in Australia?????
If from Melbourne there is a guy who has containers of bikes going to NZ as part of tours that he organises for motorcycle tourists. Try him as he may have a spare space in a container that you could use.

Hi there,

you can sent your bike from Sydeny to Auckland for approx. 480 dollars. Takes 10 days. You have to supply a crate. Those can be picked up for free at the Yamaha dealer called "Action motors" in Parramatta (suburb Sydney. You still have to modify them to fit your bike. Give them a ring in advanced.
let me know if your interested so I can send you the adress/tel. (not on my at the moment.)
good luck,

Roland

We flew the bikes from Sydney to Auckland in Feb 2001 -- Drove up to the Quantas freight office a few days before, got the paperwork resolved, and dropped the bike off at their dock 4 hours before we got on our own flight (uncrated).

Be sure to go directly to the Qantas cargo dept at the airport 4-5 days in advance, just so you know the drill, and they know you. I do not have the phone number handy, but if you send a separate email, will forward to you.

We paid US$813 for the 2 bikes -- should be the same type of pricing from Melbourne as they also have direct flights. We saved A$132 by doing the DG paperwork with a friend in the business, and the whole process was easy!

See: http://www.ultimatejourney.com/Chap48.html

Pricing for 2 bikes (uncrated) -- A$1.00 = US$0.56:
F650 = 242kg; R100PD = 294.5kg. Total was 536.50 kg

- A$2.40/kg (rate based on 500+kg)
- A$0.15/kg fuel surcharge
- A$25 = Airway bill
- A$42 = Dangerous Goods Check
- (A$132) for Dangerous Goods Documents -- we did our own = FREE.
- Customs was also free -- export agent will try to charge A$100.
- NZ$33.50 = MAF (quarantine check in NZ)
Total = US$813.00

Shipping by sea would have been about US$550, not to mention the hassle of crating, transporting crates to the docks, delay in importing, uncrating, and 2 weeks without the bikes. Flying was worth the investment.

NOTE: At the time, price from AUK to SYD was NZ$1.80/kg (even cheaper!!)

Suerte,
C & E
