Touring around Queensland

I’m planning a trip to Burleigh Heads in Queensland, and I bumped into this website that has a fair bit of information about the area, accommodation and things to do: Burleigh Heads Accommodation | Burleigh Tourism - Home , but if anyone knows anything else about this area and could give me some tips, it’d be great! Cheers!

Hi Explorer - I'm from Brissie just up the road from Burleigh - now living in London. Not sure what the website offers but probably touristy stuff not geared at bikers.

Let me know a little more about what you are looking for.

If you go now beaches/surfing will not be great - weather is too cold.

If you are on a bike then some good rides inland up through the Gold Coast Hinterland.

It's been a while now but maybe look for the Lions Road which will take you from Beaudesert through to nothern NSW or visa versa.

Also look out for O'Reily's also inland from Nerang.

If you get further north to Bris-Vegas then head out west though The Gap and have a coffee up the top of Mount Glorious before heading even further west to Wivenhoe Dam (now full I understand) and back through the Brisbane Valley to town.

If you make it to Brissie then head to the Breakfast Creek Hotel and have a beer off the wood and a steak - best in the world and very Aussie.

If not on a bike then maybe try some whale watching which I recall is on this time of year but I'm not sure where the boats leave from.

Fishing is also good and if this is your go then you will find charters leaving from the Southport Seaway or Tweed Heads but my tip is don't go for bottom bashing even though this will be cheaper ie try light game fishing for tuna, mackeral by trolling.

There are plenty of theme parks close by the Gold Coast and my picks would be Seaworld (at Southport) or Movie World (a bit further north again).

A visit to Byron Bay (about an hour south) is also worth the time.

There are also some good golf courses nearby (Robina, Tweed Heads, Hope Island, Sanctuary Cove).

Hope this points you in the right direction but let me know if I can be of further help.

Enjoy Oz - best place in the world.

Queensland the sunshine state

Hi
I live in Brisbane, and have traveled north up to the cape, and west through the bull dust to Alice Springs. It is a wonderful state full of variances.
The roads out west are red sandy and full of wildlife and road trains. Absolutely stunning scenery. Up north it is tropical rainforests, and amazing beaches, cane toads and red bellied black snakes. I enjoyed the rode out to the west, but a shorter trip that gives you an insight into what Queensland has to offer is a little trip to Stanthorpe via the back roads, and to finish with a nice wine and open log fire.
Enjoy your ride.
:palm:

CHeers guys!

We checked out that site and it has some good listings for Burleigh Accommodation. Did you find what you like? We did a trip there last year and found Burleigh Heads much nicer than further up the coast.

Thanks for your reply. We are up there next week so I hope the weather holds. A few days ago it was really warm. There seems to be accommodation specials each week on the home page of Burleigh Heads Accommodation | Burleigh Tourism - Home

+1 for a Cape York Blast if you can swing it.

Sadarm82222, I think you are confusing Queenstown and Cairns, unless you simply mean Queensland.

Anyway, I agree that the Skyrail is a pleasant ride, as is the Kuranda railway.

Can't say I'm a fan of the Gold Coast. It was a much nicer place 50 years ago!
