Shipping NZ to Australia

HI

I have the oppotunity to move to NZ at the end of the year and want to take my beloved 4x4 with me. I am keen to explore Australia in it when I get my time off work but wanted to know if anyone knows of ferries between the two countries or shipping costs.

Many Thanks

Becky

I'm not aware of any ferry services but there are quite a few ro/ro ships that operate between NZ and OZ. Weblookup - Australia New Zealand shipping.

You'll need to do a bit of research about bringing a vehicle into OZ as its not as simple as ferry crossings in Europe.

Do a weblookup on DOTARS which has details on how to bring a vehicle into the country on a temporary basis.

Then depending on which State you arrive in will depend on the next steps - weblookup NSW RTA, QLD Transport or Vicroads all have details.

Thanks Roger

The entry of vehicle into NZ is being sorted by the company. I just would like to explore the outback in the LC so ifs it easier enough then great.

I checked out ferries - option is merchant ship that takes 3 days.

No ferries

There are no ferries as the distance between Australia and New Zealand is way too high (2200km from Auckland to Sydney). Dave Milligan at Get Routed GetRouted : Bike shipping and Tour Operator is a very good place to start for shipping info.
While shipping may take three days, there is a few days worth of formalities at each end to consider too.

Kind regards

Nigel in NZ

I should also have asked if the LC is right hand drive? If not, its a very hard process to get approval to drive a left hand drive vehicle in Oz.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
