Sydney to Bourke advice
Hi,
I am juggling around my route and have decided to head west of Sydney to begin with, so it will be around July.
It look likes like the track down the Darling River would be good, but I need to figure out the best option to get to Bourke from Sydney to begin that track.
I am OK with sealed and unsealed roads.
Any advice would be appreciated.

if you're just after a quick trip to get to the area you actually want, just chuck it in to google maps and follow that route - i would recommend taking route 40 (bells line of road) over route 32 through the blue mountains though - it's a much nicer, twistier road, with less traffic and towns (watch out for cops though).

putty road is a longer route through the mountains, but is a great ride (route 69). again, watch for cops on this road. turn left at the end of this and follow your nose to bourke

Pretty damp out there at the moment but should be dried out when you travel, a couple of possible sites to visit are Jenolan Caves (south) or the Warrumbungles (north), if you've got the time.

Hi, this is the start of a trip through and around Australia. So after this leg my plan is to travel to Alice Springs, across to the west coast, up and and back across to Cairns etc. So I do time on my hands and happy to take the long, interesting and unique routes.

When Phillip Island is on I have about 10,000 bikes go past my place in the days leading up to the bike races. I live on the south coast NSW and I know this run is a favourite for all riders.

I came down from Queensland a couple of months ago, from Moree, out to Bourke, down the Kidman way to Cobar and on to Broken Hill.
Countryside was still wet from the previous years water, the water flowing from the severely flooded western Queensland areas, will be flowing through the Darling flood plains for months yet.
By the time you get out there, all the roads effected at this time will have been fixed, and the countryside will be remarkably beautiful, with green grasses and winter flowers, and patches of red dirt showing through.

Bourke is usually regarded as the beginning of the "Outback" and from there west the country becomes decreasingly populated and increasingly remote.

Carry plenty of freshwater, make sure you never drive past a petrol pump without filling your tank, watch out for the Roos, Goats and V8 Chooks, and have a bloody good time!

Where's yer next stop after Bourke, are you going north or heading south and across to the centre?

My route that I have planned would have me go from Bourke and down the Darling River to Mildura and then across to Adelaide and from there up to the centre via Birdsville I think.
The Darling River option sounds great from your description.

Sandpro - If I were to do route 40 out of Sydney would where would you suggest I go from there? The map looks like I would either join up to route 32 or go north on 86??
