Riding Buddy for Oodnadatta Track - Nov/Dec 2010

I'm doing a slow lap of Australia from 11 September 2010, starting in Melbourne and going clockwise via South Australia and the Nullabor to Perth then up to the NT and Queensland. I should have reached Adelaide by mid November and would like to do the Oodnadatta Track but as this is mostly a dirt track and I've never ridden further up a dirt track than somebody's front door, I'm not that keen on doing it alone. I'm thinking it will take about 1-2 weeks to go there and back so if you're free mid-late November and fancy going this way, give me a shout. Don't know what bike I'll be riding yet as I'll need to buy one when I arrive in Oz, but if anyone has any suggestions they'd be appreciated too. Also, if you've already done the Track then some feedback on what to expect would also be good.

Thanks.

Not sure I would reccomend travelling up that road at that time of the year. Extremly hot (think 40 + degree days) and very little other traffic.
You might do better to stick to the coast and head inland when it cools down a bit.
How long are you in the country for?

Not impossible to do, but you should be very well prepared. Defineatly find someone to do it with you....(good luck) and make sure your bike is perfect mechanically and yo stay well hydrated.
The William creek pub is awesome and will seem like an oasis to you.

So, what happened to all the other replies to this thread?

There were at least 5 up to a few hours ago, now only one from Saab which reiterates the rest of ours, i am confused?

Hi TravellingStrom!

There's actually another thread running under Travellers seeking Travellers - seems like the same question has been posted in both sections...

Newbies often cross-post in 2,3,4 and I even seen 5 sections. It's the Mods job to try to sort out which section is most appropriate. I don't know who did it this time, but when I do it, I leave a re-direct.

Cheers

Err, sorry, my fault. I posted it in the Oz/NZ regional forum then realised there was a Travellers Seeking Travellers forum so posted it there too. Rookie mistake - apologies for the confusion. Again, thanks for the advice. I'll be in Oz for 1 year so will maybe do the Track in your autumn/winter and when I've gained more experience riding down under. Cheers.

Oh well, I guess there was two seperate issues then, no worries :)

Good idea Bonnygirl, there wil be a lot more travellers doing the track then as well

Cheers

I'm a month behind you, Bonnygirl. I'll be in Melbourne in mid October, and I'm also going to be riding around Aus. My plans are even less organised than yours. I haven't even decided on clockwise or anticlockwise!

I'm not sure if it's feasible to meet up for the Oodnadatta Track or any other route, but who knows, dumb luck might place us near each other at some point.

Nathan
