Hi; I will be moving to Oz in Aug. or Oct. of this year, (to nsw, the central coast) and would like to get some bike info. I have heard that in Australia one must ride a 250cc for a year before being able to purchase a 650. Is this true? I hope not. I would like to get an xr650l as I like to ride on and off road but I'm a big guy and I'll look like a freaking circus clown act on a 250. any info I get would be very helpful and I really appreciate it.

If you have a current (overseas) licence than you should be able to 'transfer' it ..

The 250cc learner limit has been modified somewhat .. highter powered 250cc bikes have been excluded .. but lower powered upto 650? cc bikes have been included .. I don't think teh xr is a lower powered one though .. could be wrong.

Thank you for the info. it was helpful. I'm currently in the U.S. Marines and just found out today that my retirement plans are canceled. My regiment is being posted to Afghanistan for at least 2 more years. So...maybe later!
