Hi Keith. I think you will find the importation costs pretty reasonable by international standards (about NZ$150 US$90 for paper and inspection fees), but it depends a little on who you get once you are in the country as to the on-road costs. I have seen people just pay the plate fee and tax (NZ$42) and other who have had to pay the full fee including personal accident levy of NZ$210 for 12 months (Although you can buy anything from 3 months to the full twelve, saving a lot). There will be a cost for a safety inspection (Warrant Of Fitness, called a WOF and pronounced "WOF" too!)at about NZ$30 and any costs to bring your bike to NZ standard. Almost always this is only a sticky patch on one side of the headlight if you are from a country that drives on the right. If you bike is a Irish spec one, it won't need that. Some people don't even have to get a WOF. Check this link too.: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/tri...wZealandImport Hope this helps. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Make sure you drop by here when you come. I have a small cabin set up for travellers, and a big workshop for the bike! Good luck with your planning, and you have the perfect bike for travelling the many back roads and mountain trails all over NZ.

Regards

Nigel in NZ

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
