Exclamation Problems with petrol.

I'm off on a 2 month bike ride to Derby via Canarvon Gorge, Cairns and Cooktown. I have been resading some stories about fuel not being available in some of the towns in north WA. Can anybody give a update as to the truth of this? I'll be riding a Strom650 which seems to give a good range. This will be the first time on a bike trip. Using it as a training trip for Africa in the near future.
Thanks in advance for info.

Like this you mean http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/r...stralia155.jpg

But the alternative route via the Savannah Way has fuel every few hundred kilometres. There are guides on the www for the SW if thats route you will be using.

WA has similar signs on their roads - if in doubt about fuel ask about the next fuel when you fill up. Never rely on maps saying there is fuel in rural areas.

Thanks for that Roger.
I think I'll be carrying a 5 or 10 litre container.
I was relying on the maps for the planning stage showing where the petrol stations were located.

Thanks again for the help.

On the bitumen the longest stretch between fuel stops anywhere is Fitzroy Crossing to Halls Creek - around 290km. I did it 10 years back and only had a fuel range of 275kms. My simple solution was to ferret around in the rubbish bin at the Halls Creek servo, pull out an empty 1.25 litre mineral water bottle, fill it with fuel, and empty it into the tank 25kms down the road.

Saves all the trouble of carrying a spare container with you.
