Oz customs want to have address in BOL

Hi,

Yesterday I visited customs office in Darwin to get my carnet stamped.
Few minutes later lady comes and asks where I am staying in Darwin, I told here the place and then she wrote it to BOL and she said that once I am in Toll, I need to ask them to do the same to original BOL.
(Dili marked just my name, Darwin and my email address to BOL).

At Toll, I told this thing to them and they called to the customs office, seems like some rules have now changed and they want to have your guesthouse name in BOL, so donĀ“t be surprised if this is asked from you in Dili...

Its normal that the Bill of Lading has an address of the owner of the goods. Don't forget that the BOL is your title to the goods once you leave them with the shipping company.

Yes, naturally, but when you are foreigner and come to this country for the first time, you normally do not have any address.
Toll said that normally name, Darwin and email address has been enough, but seems like this has changed...

So, it might be needed to prebook hostel or get someoneĀ“s address before you can ship your vehicle from Dili to Darwin.

That's weird, Toll had us put an address. We just picked a hotel name like Hilton...but they should be able to email you a revised BOL?

I do not have a problem, I just asked Toll office in Darwin to fix it.
Yes, Toll Dili sent me BOL via email.

This information was mainly for the people who are going to ship their vehicle from Dili to Darwin in the future Get a hostel address.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
