NZ Bound

Hi,

we will be collecting our bikes in Dunedin on the 30th March, touring the south island for a month or so before heading to the north island.
Be good to hear from any one, perhaps share a lion red or two

Paul

Welcome to Two Bikes Running

Shame I can't go but I have to work all the way from now until the end of 2013. We are off to the mountains again to pick up my camera. Ivonne is coming with me and we will try out our new sleeoing bags and primus stove.
Safe travels.

Garry

PS the floor still looks good.

Hello Garry,

great to hear from you. Did Ivonne get all the right stuff? You should have loads of room without all those blankets !! We had an adventure dropping the bikes off in LA, travelled up to LA over night and got lost - Compton is not the friendliest place I've been.
We will try and Skype you next week

Paul

Hi Babba,

The cost is $700usd which includes all costs both ends except bike cleaning if you send a dirty bike and customs fee for processing the Carnet - $35nzd I think. You will need a carnet for NZ and OZ.

Shipping from NZ to OZ - check out Green Freight, cost is about $1100nzd uncrated. Plenty of info on this site about Green freight.
The shipper we used out of LA is Robbie stevens, he sends containers to NZ on a regular basis and takes bikes uncrated. So far he has been excellent. The drop off point is a storage unit between Compton and Long beach LA.
Contact Robbie on imperialfreight@msn.com
Phone in LA = 310 251 2910
Phone in NZ = 0274 343256

GPS Co-ords of drop off point in LA = 250W Artesia Blvd
N33 52.411 W118 13.515

Hope that helps

Paul

From dropping the bike off it took four days until the bikes were loaded and at sea. The bikes have been at sea for three days now and the expected sailing time is max four weeks.

You have to work out if four weeks without your bike is worth the cheaper option of flying. It is for us as we have friends in NZ to stay with while we wait.

All the best

Paul

Just a correction. You don't need a carnet for New Zealand. If you don't have one, you will need to pay the GST sales tax (15%), which you can claim back on exporting. This also means you can legally sell your bike in NZ, once it has passed the safety and compliance inspection. If you have a carnet, then it is much easier to import and export (less paperwork).

Cheers bloke

I can't say enough kind things about Robbie. We picked up our bikes from him in Dunedin 3 weeks ago and it was as uneventful as could be. Robbie's, laid back, kind and helpful.

It was a leap of faith to leave our bikes off in Compton and Paypal Robbie the funds, but, it was an easy, smooth and affordable transaction.

I'd add that while traveling we need an address to ship a replacement Autocom part and Robbie had us ship it to him, called us when it came in and then had it couriered to us in Christchurch.

Just a great guy!

Kevin
