Looking for a motorbike to tour New Zealand

Hello,

I traveled on my Yamaha TT600 from Switzerland to Australia and now I am planning to visit New Zealand with my girlfriend for about 2.5 months starting November 2011.

Now we are looking for a bike which we can travel two up and with some luggage. Does anyone know if it is better to buy and sell a bike around Auckland or Christchurch? Capacity should be bigger than 600cc, Tourer/Dirtbike prefered. Price not more than 4500.- NZD

Do you know somebody who is selling a bike or even better could lend us one for this time...(for a fair amount, lots of traveller stories and a good swiss dinner. I am experienced in motorcycle maintenance and riding, over 90'000 km so far!) Would be awesome :-)

cheers,
Chris www.chrisontour.ch

Hi Mate, for $4500 you should have no problem getting something to tour on. Have a look on Trademe: Dual purpose | Motorbikes | Trade Me

Keep us posted as to your travels & you are welcome to come stay at my place when you are in Rotorua.

Thank you for your replies!

Short update:
We are on the road since a week. I bought a Kawasaki KLR 650 (as a buy back option from a dealer) and she decided to ride her own bike (from a private person via trademe). Due to not having a licence, she got the learner licence (basic skilled course and theory exam) here and is now riding a Yamaha Scorpio 225.

Can't wait to explore this country further...

See you somewhere on the road!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
