Looking to buy a bike early december in NZ

Hey guys,

I am flying to NZ (auckland) in december and i am on the lookout for a bike there. Most places i go, they tell me to check on trademe... which i am, but i want to also check out the other options.

first of all ... (let's start with the obvious question...) does anybody know/have a bike for sale?
Are there any dealers that can, or can not be trusted around tourists?

If i would need a bike shipped, from one place of the country to another, what are the best options/services for that ?

I would love to get feedback from both locals are past visitors

Best regards,

Jelmen

NZ Bike Market

G'day.

Trademe is probably the best place to look depending on what you want. The greater majority of bikes on TM are private sales, but dealers advertise on there as well. if you buy private, check the bike has clear title ie, no debt.If you google CarJam NZ, you can pay a small fee to check it out. Check how long the registration has to run also. Anything over 500cc is around $600 a year. Check it has also got what we call a WOF or warrant of fitness. If it has'nt got one, you may not be able to register the bike if it has expired. If it has 6 months rego left and same for the WOF, and you are staying for less time than that, youre ok. Depending on where you are from, and where you are coming to, you'll find there are not that many dealers in NZ. Whilst all brands are represented, selection is a bit limited. I've got my Triumph 800Xc advertised if it is of any interest to you. Link

Phone no's are there if you are interested or, would like any other help.
Kind regards
Geoff. Auckland.

It's easy to buy a bike in NZ. All you need is an address, photo drivers licence ID, and $9 for the change of ownership fee. Insurance is NOT compulsory.

I have a bike for sale too:

There are a number of bike transporters, I've been happy with BikeTranz

Biketranz

No transport company is cheap, so consider being flexible with your travel plans and start where you find the bike.

Cheers

brodixv8: That tiger looks great, but is a bit out of my pricerange (with a bit i mean a lot).

NearlyHomelessNick: Yes, i know. I have been posting in your thread as well, but didn't want to hijack yours, so i started my own. I'm sure we'll keep an eye on each others threads to see what comes up ;)

Nigel Marx: That K100LT looks like a very decent bike, if i were looking for a 'workhorse' for day to day stuff, this would be a great bike to have. For traveling i am looking for something more towards dualsport in the first place, roadbike if i come in a 'beggers can't be choosers' situation.

So basicly ... if i could get that tiger for the price of that bmw, we'd have a deal :P

Thank you so much for your input, guys !
