Landrovers in Aus??

Would I be mad to ship a Landy to Aus for a 9 month tour? What are the spares availability like? Any dos/don'ts? Particular equipment that is useful?

Or am I better to just buy something out there (ie a Toyota or Patrol)

I wouldn't bother sending yours over.
Buy a Landcruiser or Hilux there and sell it when you leave. Landrovers are nowhere near as popular as they used to be since Toyota arrived in Australia and as most people use in them in the Outback, spares are easy to find.

I agree with PPia. Land Rovers used to rule (I have one) but now every outback station has one or more Landcruisers. They are like pickups in America, - everywhere.

The Land Rover Discovery is also popular as a 4WD car, but the Landcruiser pickups are just everywhere, including the most remote places.

Toyota's tend to hold there price even a rather beat up "tray-back".

A suggestion would be if you wanted to purchase a Troopy (I have one, and no it's not for sale:-)) then arrange to fly to Oz with the intention of attending a auction house that deals with ex government, Telstra (telephone company), there are numerous vehicle auctions in Perth West Aust, you can pick up rather well set up Troopy, ie already registered, long range fuel, cargo barrier, log books, roof racks some have dual batteries & power outlets (for fridge).

If you did purchase a vehicle, lets say in West Aust, it would have WA number plates (registered) to sell it in another state becomes a "Greek Tragedy" as the vehicle is deemed un-registered and has to be registered in that particular state for sale.

So to get best use out of such a purchase circumnavigate Oz and sell it in the state of purchase.

Anywho, if I can be of assistance whilst in Oz, contact me via my email.

Cheers
Macca
