Hiring Bike In Melbourne Or Sydney

Hi Im travelling out to OZ for the Ashes and in between the Cricket would like to travel from Adelaide to Melbourne onto Sydney. However, I cant find any companies to hire from in Adelaide. So going tostart from either Sydney or Melbourne. Only looking to Hire for 10 Days. Any advice most welcome. Also, if any would like to join me that would be great too!

After OZ looking to hire bike in New Zealand for 2wk trip. Any companies anyone can recommend please.

Hi Mazza. I have used Bikescape in Aussie, who where good, but I'm sure there are other just as good. In NZ, Te Waiponamu and Kea are good, or if you have money(!) GoTourNZ. Again, I'm sure most if not all of the others will do fine.
Drop us an email when you get to NZ, maybe we can meet up for a ride or a beer?
Kind regards

Nigel Marx

Bike Hire in NZ

Mazza
If you're heading for the south island (strongly recommended) and even more so, Dunedin (winning choice - can fly direct from Brisbane and Sydney I think) then you should check out a new adventure bike rental business - Backroads Bikes.
I know this because it's my project and I plan to launch in mid-October with brand new 650 Vstroms and KLE500 Kawasakis, fully kitted with hard luggage and new riding gear.
Website under construction at the mo but should be on-line within 2-3 weeks - www.backroads.co.nz - would love to see you.

Garner's Bike Hire

Hi Mazza,

If you use Garner's, hope you get a better bike than I got a few years ago. Really wasn't up to it. Ended up taking it back and waiting for a decent bike to come back from another hire.
To their credit, they did put me up in a good hotel and took a day off the hire.

I went to Melbourne two years ago as part of a house swap (never do that again). There are a few places that can provide bikes for hire in Melbourne. It’s not cheap, though – I paid AU$339 (approximately £140) for a Diversion XJ900 for two days/three nights hire in mid-winter to go along the Great Ocean Road. Insurance was limited to third party only with £1,200 excess.

Clipstone Yamaha – (03) 9870 9488

I hired a hornet from Garners (great bike!) and rode it up the Reefton Spur Road (fun road, especially with ice, snow and a 1/2 mile long diesel spill!). I was lucky as they had a half price winter sale on so hire was considerably cheaper. They are located very close to the centre of town.

Garners – (03) 9326 8676

Have a great time. Lucky you!

cheapest rental

I lived in Melbourne for a year and rented from Clipstone and Garners. Both fine but expensive.
The cheapest hire I can see is http://www.aussierider.com/MotorcycleHireMelb.html
They seem to do a Yam XT600 for $65 / day. I think that would be the best deal if you're after that kind of bike.

Garners worked for us.

My wife and I used Garners March 06 and Eddie Garner was top notch. Scoped out the rates and they were much the same regardless of provider and they were tres hospitable running us around in their Van and such. We used them in Melbourne and they were a cinch to get to if you are downtown, could walk from the hotel. Have a great ride?

Cheers Steve
