Burt Munro Challenge - NZ November 2007

Howdy all

If you are in NZ or are thinking of heading this way, then this is one motorcycle event not to miss

The Burt Munro Challenge was established as a tribute event to celebrate Burt Munro and the ongoing success of the feature film, The World's Fastest Indian. Thousands of bikers are expected when the second event is held in and and around Invercargill NZ, from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 November 2007.

Oreti Park will again be the rally site for this year's Challenge, with facilities including food stalls, rally merchandise, an enormous marquee equipped with bar facilities and a stage for live entertainment on the Friday & Saturday nights.

This year's Racing events will kick off with Beach Races at Oreti Beach on Friday night. The action continues on Saturday with Track racing at Teretonga and then Oreti Park Speedway, both venues neighbouring the Rally site (Oreti Park). The Wyndham Street Racing will again conclude this year's Challenge on the Sunday.

So as you will see there is something for everyone.

I would like to meet any other HUBB members, and extend a warm welcome to those that maybe interested in coming over.
We have plenty of space here at our house for those that may wish to extend their biking vacation.
I am also happy to assist with bike rentals etc wherever possible

P.S Nigel, we would like to catch up on the way down if that suits?

Cheers Scott

It'll be a good'un

Thanks for putting this info up Scott. Last year's event coincided with a southerly polar blast, and ALL the press reports were still completely enthusiastic. It's sure to be bigger and hopefully better this year. My pick of the weekend would be the street racing. There are quite a few venues around NZ that still have pukka street races every year, with haybales on the lampposts and people hanging out of upstairs windows cheering the riders on. Can't be too many places that can still do that. Thank the political gods that we have sensible liability laws in NZ.
Looking forward to seeing you Scott, is Carrisa coming too?

Regards

Hi

Couldnt agree more with that!!
We are looking forward to it, even if the weather isnt on its best behaviour

Yes Carissa will be coming along, maybe as a pillion (which we are not sure whether either of us will like )
We are still trying to negotiate the price of her bike from Suzuki, she is keen to ride the GS but not on the road as she is on her learners and wont have her full in time before we go

Here is is the official website for more info

Cheers Scott

Sounds great! Wish I could come. Read the book 'One Good Run'. Superb story, Burt sounded like a right character!

Maybe one day I'll make it down.

Matt

Anyone tempted to attend but too far to bring your bike could consider renting for the weekend - closest would be from Dunedin - about 140 km or 2.5 hours drive from Invercargill.

Hadn't been planning to. However with these cheap new air fares from Pacific Blue I am tempted to fly down to chch, rent a bike for a long weekend & hit some good roads.....

Any advice on cheap rentals?

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
