Gibb River Rd interest/advice?

Hi All,
I'll be up Broom way the start of september. I'd really like to do the Gibb River Rd, but I'm apprehensive to do it alone as I'm not sure what the conditions are like.
Is anyone else up that way then and interested in riding it? Or does anyone have any useful information about the track?

Thanks!

Its now a well travelled road, bitumen or concrete on the worst hill sections that used to wash out in the wet. The majority of river crossings have been concreted over. The WA Main Roads website has weekly? updates of the condition.

Met two retired couples in late June who had done it - one towing an offroad caravan with a Ford or a Nissan 4x4, the other couple in a Sprinter motorhome. Both comented on the number of vehicles on the road now.

With a motorbike it would be an easy ride.

Thanks for that Roger!
I've never done a river crossing before. Thats what worried me most about the Gibb River Rd.
Sounds like its definitely do-able. Do you know if there is anywhere to stay along the way? I don't have a tent with me :/

I think there are a couple of places that take guests - do a weblookup for WA Tourism Kimberleys, that should get you info. Its still a lonely piece of road - I'd go prepared with at least mosquito netting to sleep under if you end up with a night out. Try also Exploreoz.com.au - explore oz Resources and Information. This website is for sale! and the GRR.

Thanks Roger! Will do my research before I head up that way. I have a week off in Perth in which I can organise it all. Let's hope I don't wuss out! hehe
Dunno if I'd want to sleep out. Scared of crocks :P
Will let you know how I go :)

No worries about crocs :cool4: There's normal campsites at Derby, Windjana Gorge (20kms off the Gibb RR - and while you're there see the Tunnel Creek), Silent Grove, Mt. Barnett Road House, Ellenbrae, Home Valley (nice). And about 60kms off the Gibb RR at Drysdale (superb cooking).
