travel insurance (medical)

Very simple question (NOT!)
WE are two Aussies living in the UK we are going to go overland back home. WE are looking in to medical travel insurance? Is it possible?
Who have others used.
So Far World nomads are top choice or Navigator travel.

Hi Xander,

I used 1stoptravelinsurance.co.uk

It was only about GBP 160.00 for 1 year worldwide cover (incl. big bikes etc.)
However I think they have increased the prices now.

Cheers,
Frank

Sounds obvious but: Make sure you check the small print!
For example: World Nomads for UK citizens does NOT cover big bikes. World Nomads for German citizens apprently does...
I really don't like all the "legal-language-small-print", so prior to purchasing anything I always send an email to the insurer, with things put into "simplified english":

Big bikes as main form of travel OK? Age-limit? OK to take out insurance WHILST I'm abroad? Insurance renewal,...

Also: certain ('dangerous') countries might not be covered. Do a check on that one as well.

Bjorn

In 2005/6, when doing rtw, I had purchased Medjetassist.com. Never needed it. Not sure if they would have picked me up in the middle of Gobi, but the price was reasonable. Good for the peace of mind I suppose. Worth checking out their website, they have traveller stories there.

However, these guys will only get you (supposedly) into a hospital. You will still need a health insurance after that. I was using my US medical coverage (HMSA), and a supplemental travel coverage provider of which I forgot, so do not have much advise in that respect.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
