Getting my bike on the road in NSW

Hi,

We are waiting for our UK registered bikes to arrive in Sydney.

Any one got any info on getting our bikes through the rego, green slip and inspection stuff.

The police and the Rego people don't have a bloody clue in Dee why !!

Any advice would be great

Cheers

Paul

Hello Roger,

Yep it does say it all - thing is the RMS and the police are telling conflicting tales !!

We think we will just print off the page you sent to show road side if pulled - get green slip or some insurance and see how we go.

Cheers

Paul

Most coppers wont know about that part of the legislation, there are so few overseas registered vehicles in Australia. Carrying a copy of the webpage is certainly useful and has been suggested by a couple of riders on here before. NSW is by far the easiest State to deal with. If you back up a few threads you'll see a reply from the Victorian Roads and Traffic Authority about recognising the NSW overseas vehicles arrangements, I'm still waiting for Queensland to reply (5 months?).

Its one of the problems of having a federation of States in that we can have different laws - much like the EU and USA.

You maybe wasting your time trying to buy third party insurance as this is always linked to registration, but I doubt there is an insurance company that wont take money - whether they pay out is another matter.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
