Getting a rack & buying a Suzi

We will be travelling around Australia, bush camping, for 18 months in a small bus, towing a couple of bikes to take us to the places the bus wont go, (as well as as nipping into town to get some milk). I want to set the bikes up to carry camping gear, water & 10l litres fuel (in a plastic jerry can) & spares, to allow us a range of 400 - 500kms & the ability to 'go bush' for several days at a time. I will probably get a Suzuki DR-Z250, & my wife has a Honda SL230, just purchased. Will need to put a rack on the rear of each bike. I think there are probably racks available for the Suzuki(?) but less so for the Honda, it being a somewhat obscure little model.

Does anyone know if I can get a rack for the SL230 anywhere (2000 model), or will I need to get one made/make one?

Any recommendations for racks for the DR-Z250?

Whilst I'm asking, anyone know of any specific problems with the DR-Z250's (Post 2000) I should look out for when buying

Get another SL230 !!!!! Keeps the spares low, and you can wap parts! Both bikes will ride the same .. etc... etc.

G'day Frank,
yeah I know it makes sense .....BUT............riding the SL230 I very quickly found it's limits. Although it looks like an off road bike, it's off road capabilities are very limited & basically i could see myself becoming very frustrated with it's road oriented suspension & gear ratios. It is a nice but physically small bike with a very gentle power delivery, just not for me. It will be fine for dirt roads for my wife, but I'd like something I can have a bit of a 'play' on too, from time to time.

Hi

I used to have one of those SL250s. Maybe try and ask for an AG bike mod? I got the local Honda dealer to make one fit as part of the purchase and he did. The rack was not the biggest, but a normal milk crate fitted on it quite OK, so it was reasonably useful.

Hope that helps
