carnet de passage for new zealand with australien regist. bike?

one more question over shipping from aussieland to new zealand,
when the bike has an australian registration,i need an carnet de passage for new zealand,
and the same question when i shipp to japan,

but i dont understand,australia and new zealand have no friendship together,that australia biker can bring here bikes whitout carnet de passage to new zealand,for some weeks holiday,thats what i mean with my question.
and new zealand biker cant go without carnet de passage for holidays with there motorbike to australia,is this correct,greetings,fredontour.:confused1:

Is this the same Fred who has his stickers on just about every tourist and road sign at every attraction I visited on a recent Central Australian trip???? If it is you must have covered as many miles as me.

Any temporay overseas registered vehicles in New Zealand either need a carnet or leave a 12,5% deposit(based on the value on the vehicle) with NZ Customs. Or that is what I am led to believe.

yes this is the same fred covered his way around,sorry that i contact you so late,but its a good idea to leave stickers on my way,everywher can contact me,so like you,i stay now in caboolture area an dnext year i start again to tasmania,new zealand my trip around tw,maybe see you on the way,whitch bike you ride,greetings,fred.

Hey folks,

We brought our 2 UK registered Yammy Diversions into NZ in August without Carnets. It took 2 days to sort out, mainly cos the Customs guys didn't tell us that you need either the receipt for the bike for valuation, or you can get a bike dealer to provide a (sight unseen) valuation. We had to pay $30NZ for it as we didn't have any handy contacts. I recommend doing that & laying it on thick to the dealer about how high a mileage & how much abuse the bike has taken, our valuations were so low that once the customs had deducted the dealer mark-up & shipping costs (that's service not vehicle valuation, but it does get added back in as GST in some wierd way) we had a minus value! I asked if that meant they'd give us money but they would not! Anyway we ended up paying nothing for import tax.

I know from the Oz Govt website that there's a similar process in Australia,
don't know about Japan though.:confused1:

Hey Fred hope you got the racks repaired in Caboolture at a reasonable price. We head out of Brisbane tomorrow morning (Friday) for a 2 day ride. Short notice, but let me know if you want to tag along. Call me on 0405 153000.

Current ride is a Suzuki DL1000 '07 model.
You will love Tasmania, just wait 'til you see the corners. All the roads must have been designed by a motorcyclist.
