Europe bike to Australia insurence difficult??
 

Hi i am Olav from Holland and want to take my KTM in 2014 with me to Perth....but the more i inform the more i get the idea that shipping is costly(1000 euro) and that harbor fee s are expensive too and above this i now hear that to insure my bike i have to get an Australian license plate and MOT REALLY???????hope to hear from some one peace Olav.

If you want to be fully insured (theft, fire etc) then forget it. Expensive ..

The compulsory insurance required can be obtained reasonably easy and for reasonable cost, that gives you 'third party personal insurance - if you injure someone else they are covered for their injury.

Shiping the bike can be expensive. Maybe consider flying it. We found a good offer from Sydney to Frankfurt for about 1300EUR (ThaiCargo, all incl), took three days...

You want to take it there means you gonne live there and want to import it or you want to go with Carnet in and out?

we found a cheap insurance at insuremyride.com.au (but to make the insurance work you need to register it as well (but you keep your number plate)..., I guess that is mentioned in the thread above...
