dr or klr for strelezeki tracks?

hi am back here after about 2 years.rue the day i sold my 3aj tenere. played with gsxr1000s for the past 2 years.
am planning to do a trip next month-head from byron bay inland to charlevile, inaminka ride down to lynhurst and ride up back thro the birdsville and back its basically a loop for about 15 days .narrowed the options to klr650 08 or a dr650.i will be keeping the bike and use it to commute when i get home(not long distances).
klr comes with the 22 ltr tanks-is 30-40 kgs heavier.-has luggage racks.
dr-needs a tank upgrade (or should it be ok fer the trip if i carried a jerry can with 5 lts of fuel?
)/needs luggage rack.
apparently (from reviews) the new klr is bulky when standing up on the pegs and bars are positioned low.
am only 5'8 about 65kgs.
begining of april a good time?
tx.

stormsearcher,

Have you had a look at exploroz.com.au for info on outback tracks and times to travel. There is a good forum there also where you can ask questions about tracks and terrain. There are not many bikers on EO though.

tracks

i have a few nrma maps/writeups on the tracks i plan to ride.still deciding on the bike.looking for something bullet/proof and low maintanence.had 3 gsxr1000s in the last 2&half years. thrashed them to hell. bullet proof.my last gsxr k6 had 30,kms in 1 year. needed a set of plugs fer $20/apart from synth oil, filers, tyres.
looking fer similar reliability.
might go in fer the wr250r. needs 25lts tank available from yamaha.seat maybe.throw over panniers. light.valve clearences at 40k kms recomended inspection. cant beat that with a dr or a klr i suppose.has 150kmph top speed 6 speed gearbox.
will check the website u recommended. cheers.i got a few biker frnds in newcastle.one day migt drop in and say g'day chris.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
