Cobb Hwy between Ivanhoe and Wilcannia?

Has anyone travelled the Cobb Hwy section between Ivanhoe and Wilcannia in central NSW recently? Or the little road between Hillston and Ivanhoe via Mossgiel? I remember these roads being very very sandy a couple of years ago, just wondering how they are these days.
I'm planning to ride from Sydney to Perth and get bored on too long stretches of paved Hwy so I thought going the Ivanhoe way may be a good alternative. I'm a relative Newbie rider when it comes to sand and will go on a Suzuki DR650 with touring luggage.

I got bogged there two years ago in the mud , had to drive on the paddocks because the road was made of fine clay. should be ok in the dry though fast and flat with occasional cattle grids.

That doesn't sound too bad then. Thanks for your info!
It's just one of those roads where it's quite a commitment to start. Almost 200km long with nothing in between...

I rode those roads last week. They are both in good condition and shouldn't be a problem on the mighty DR. Just be aware that the Hillston-Mossgiel Road is a dry weather only road and is generally closed after any substantial rain. You can check it's current status here...

Last rode these roads 2 years ago. Sandy in places but the DR will certainly be up for it. You'll love it. Recent rainfall has been more typical after the floods of 8 months ago. Shouldn't be a problem as this winter has been relatively dry. Enjoy.

Ah yeah, I have no doubt about the DR being up for it. I am much more worried about the DR's clueless rider though

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
