i have a 3aj tenere which i plan to use to ride into a bit of the outback. bluemountains to innaminka get on the stuart highway and get back to bluemountains. will be riding alone. wat kind of prep do i need and wat r the best maps?wat tyres?any suggestions would be appreciated

Maps - either Hemma or Westprint.
The Hemma desert tracks maps would be the cheaper option. Do a google - they both have web sites - westprint have an email thingy that is good to be on, so do ozieexplorer in WA... they do have track notes that can be interesting reading.
How you geting from Inaminka to the stuart?

Tyres - depends if you weant them to last the whole distance (trail tyres) or replace them part way throught (knobbies) the trip.

plan to hit lyndhurst from inaminka. have a few routes chalked out. www.mynrma.com.au outback tracks. birdsville, oodandatta ,strezeleki desrt crossin etc.will see how iyt goes. wat will the temps be in december in thse places?

The usual time of year for inland Austrailian touring is from May to October as November to March tend to be extremely hot ie <40C

Looking at Oodnadata - Higest Max temperatures - Oct 45.4 Nov 47.1 Dec 48.3 Jan 50.7 Feb 46.8 Mar 44.9 Apr 41.8
All in degrees C.

The other thing you should consider on a motorcycle trip is the number of rain days (not the quanity of rain .. but the number of wet days)

Oh one other thing - no fuel between lyndhurst and inaminka. So you'll need enough to do that bit. That would be about the longest stretch. You could go through Birdsville to Maree - fuel about half way along the birdsville track so the required range is less. All these routes are well travelled ie say a vehicle every two days (if not 20 per day) [unless wet].

tx frank.i have xmas hols from dec 20th to 3jan. so i need to take a break and travel into some adventure trips to keep my sanity.my tenere has a 23ltr tank. thought will have carriers to carry 10more lts.wat would be the best route to take ?the birdsville?suggestions most welcome and would be gr8 ly appreciated. tx

1) you have not been out there before
2) your travelling at the hotest time of year

I'd advise you not to go ... well not to do the tracks you are talking of .. too far between help.
Go throught Hillstone to Broken Hill, Yunta - turn right up to the Flinders - you can spend some time in here .. if you want to go up the Oddnadata track. Return via Mildura and Mungo Lake National Park .. That might keep the temperatures below 45. Note that these temperatures are in the shade - the sun adds quite a few degrees.

My suggestiong is dont go where you are talking at that time of the year. Way to hot, there will be few people if you do run into trouble because of that.

Do the west coast of Tassie!! We toured Australia during the winter months and it was still hot. I am going back to do the North west of Tassie at some point!! Spectacular!!!!!
