Bushfires.

I just wanted to say to all Aussies that you are in my thoughts and heart in this time of tragedy. I hope the fires get under control soon and I wish you all the best in hard times rebuilding yet to come.

To all those that lost someone you have my deepest sympathies.

Xander

I second that. I have been thinking of your terrible times.

It's heart breaking to see the impact on people lives. When I lived in Melbourne, Kinglake was my favourite area to ride - only a short distance from my home. I hope all my old riding buddies and their families are safe.

My sister is an intensive care nurse in a major Melbourne hospital. She tells me it is very upsetting going to work each day because of the terrible injuries people, and often small children, are suffering.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Saw the fallout of this tragedy on the news tonight - was shocked about the speed this event developed... A dark time for all, deepest condolences.

As an Aussie - thanks guys.

On a practical note the Red Cross is accepting donations to help those who have lost everything - 100% of donations will go to the victims of the fires.

If you are currently travelling in Australia - give Victoria a miss for a few weeks as accomodation (even in Melbourne) and other services are under extreme pressure.

Floods

I lived in deep North Queensland years ago and while bushfires are creating tragedy in the south, huge areas in the far north near Ingham/Tully are underwater (although reports suggest things may be easing a bit in the north.)

ABC Floods

Tough times down under indeed.

Thanks for the notes of kindness guys.

Please do consider donating via the Red Cross at

Australian Red Cross

I can't begin to explain the devastation out here - I've been very fortunate and have avoided most of the trouble.

Not disagreeing with saab463, but I'm sure my fellow Victorians appreciate the prayers and heartfelt sympathy from our friends around the world. Of course donations are the best way people can directly help lives shattered by both material loss and physical injuries.

As a Melburnian it has been really upsetting to see all the reports on the news and on the web about the lives that have been destroyed. I used to ride around Kinglake and Christmas Hills every weekend that I could.

I haven't been home in a while and it's almost impossible to accept that so many of these places and people are just gone.

Please donate

hello everyone, I agree in wishing these ppl all the best and hop that they can get their lives back on track. Als souldn't we say something for the ppl from north queensland who have also lost everything in the floods 2 weeks before these terrible fires. we must remember that many of these people will not receive anything and will have to argue wit their insurance companies for any assistence as the floods are apparently an act of god!for those of you that dont know australia and her conditions many of the population live in remote areas which are affected by these extremes from mother nature. please join me in wishing all australians affected by these tragerdies a speedy recovery and they are able to put this behind them . . by the way is anyone aware that western qld is now totally under water with an area the size off south australia!, this means no crops , no wool no beef for the next severl monthes!

just how harsh can this country be?

cheers
ivan
