bike crates

Hello,
I am after 2 bike crates. we are leaving Darwin mid to late Oct . we need them to ship bikes to East Timor
Info on how to obtain them is also welcome

Cheers!

Check the yellow pages & call up all the Darwin bike shops, you may be able to get something for a slab of beer.

The crates new bikes are delivered in are usually the steel type where the front wheel & handlebars need to be removed, which takes some time but gives a smaller package. A scissor jack makes taking the wheel on/off while packing/unpacking these much easier.

Cheers

Have you contacted these guys. I believe that they are just roll on roll off into a container for an overnight run to Dili

I flew my bike from New Zealand to Australia and back with Qantas and there was no need to crate the bike.

Hi,

I'm shipping out of Darwin to Dili about the same time. You don't need to crate the bikes with Perkins. Might work out a bit cheaper though.

Cheers,

Frank

thanks for the advise guys, it looks as if Perkins does have the roll on, roll off option. it may be a bit more expense but a lot less drama.

Frank

Maybe Perkins give a discount for shipping out 3 bikes together? I planned to leave mid October, but not sure if I can make it.

When are you leaving Brisbane?

Hi,

I just got a 'crate' from NT motorcycles on the Stuart Highway in Darwin for AUD100 delivered to the Perkins warehouse. It was actually a metal pallett that the bike rolled onto and strapped down. No taking out wheels etc. The bikes for Dili go into containers, and I'm a lot happier leaving the bike and gear strapped down to a pallett that I would be with just a bike on its wheels.

The guys and gals at Perkins were mega helpful, as were the people in customs house up the road. AUD250 for the shipping is good value. I'll let you know in a week or so what happens the other end!

Thanks, please keep us updated. The costs on the other side would be interesting too.

Cheers,

I just received a quote from Perkins for $350 AUD to Dili. How did you manage to get it for $250?

yimgum96 27 Oct 2010 07:50

I am also interested in the quote you got. How big is your bike?
And how did things go in Dili?
Also, are you traveling with insurance? can you recommend one for australian residents?

Thank you!
paul
