NZ Speedway Championship?

Please can someone tell me where it is to be held this year & when?
I see Larry Ross at 53 years old has made a comeback?
He used to be favourite of mine at Belle Vue & Halifax in UK!

Speedway as in cars or solos and sidecars? I've got a mate who races bikes, let me know exactly what your looking for and I'll find out.

Cheers,
Dave

Dot250

Thanks Dodger if the date is 23or 24 march i will be back home in UK.Dates in NZ are 24 Jan to 11 March.Any big meetings in between these dates would be interesting.
I still have my square barrel Dot trials 250 1964 which won 6 years Yorkshire Classic 2 stroke championship & 5 years Red Rose classic championship.I ride it on the road now with close ratio box & scrambles head & barrel.I had it MOT'd (road certificated )yesterday for a further 12 months pleasure.
We also won the 2stroke class in the 1986 7 Nations trophy the only people to beat me were a Chap called Sammy Miller & julian Wigg, brother of Simon Wigg(speedway rider).

Mine was a 1954 Scrambler , cost 20 quid and was ridden almost to destruction .
Dave Bickers was one of my heros and I fitted the widest bars I could find , just like Dave's .
I must have looked a right pillock .
Wish I'd kept it .
I remember going on a pilgrimage to Sammy Millers shop down south to buy fibreglass and alloy bits for my Bultaco , the great man wasn't home !

Dot250 – If you’re in North Island – the Thames Valley area, in particular – then you might want to consider attending the Battle Of The Streets meeting in Paeroa township. It’s not pure speedway, of course, but the street track is very tight and twisty with one fast[‘ish] straight down the Belmont-Normanby main road(s). There’s a good mixture of race classes, such as:
Sports bikes
Supermotos
Sidecar combinations
Classics

I went to last year’s meeting in February 2007; it was thrilling, with a great atmosphere.

Highly recommended.

Bickers & Smith

I rode in TV scrambles inthe 60s against Bickers,JeffSmith,Arthur Lampkin etc & then again in the 80s & 90s in the Bonanza weekends where I rode my pair of Dots The stars were still light years better than us even though they had put weight on!Dot factory is still in Manchester with son Michael Wade in charge but in poor health.
I have been a Belle Vue Speedway supporter since 1954 hence my interest in NZ championship.

Paeroa 17 Feb

I'll be in Napier for the Art Deco weekend the ONLY place I have booked in my 7 weeks travel on a new KLR 650.
Looking for somewhere to leave the bike near Christchurch after march 11 to return Jan 2009?

Kiwi Bikers

If you want to make some biker connections whilst you're in and around NZ. then consider joining this site. They are mostly a good bunch of blokes (& gals) - plus maybe the odd nutter here-and-there amongst 'em ..!!

If you post a request for info concerning bike storage in and around Christchurch - then I'll bet someone on KB will steer you in the right direction. With nearly 10,000 members something should happen!

Failing that, then note that I have my own Honda XL650V Transalp tucked away in a secure storage depot in Cromwell township, which is 410 km [255 miles], or 5½ hours away, towards the southwest, from Christchurch. As a last resort this could be an option. If you get really stuck then I'll let you have some more details.

Incidentally, I'll be back down in New Zealand too next January/February ['09]. Maybe be could have a Montheiths or Speights or Tui [... Yeah Right! ] together at that time. PM or e-mail me if you need any more info about anything in NZ - I was touring around there this time last year for four months.

Not sure ...

.. Maybe a Kiwi Biker moderator needs to check you out first BEFORE you can post - just to make sure that you're not a known trouble-maker. With some social forums this is quite normal.

To be certain I would PM (if you can) or e-mail a KB moderator and find out what the score is.

KEITH

PS - Shouldn't you be in bed by now, eh?
