I am unable to play a part in organising next years HU Travellers Meeting. All the directional signs and banner etc are stored at my workplace in Brisbane

Meeting
My wife and I are currently in Ethiopia ! We are on stage 1 of our RTW.
As for the meeting I thought it was back down South ? Then back to Qld. in 2012. If this is not the case let me know as I did put my hand up and would get something happening on my return. Keep me posted ! OMO Valley is fantastic !!!! Cheers Paul:thumbup1: |
Just sent you a note Paul. As is no one has put their hand up in the south, so though we would like to do a south / north alternate years, it's up to someone to put their hand up and make it happen!
So there's a challenge to the southerners - how about it? When are you back? Any ideas on dates? |

If so, the northern one would have to be in the dry season, so from the end of April onwards, while I southern one could be held in the wet down south, but it gets mixed up with school hols and xmas. Also, what about the west and middle of the country? I am not sure we have enough adventurers to actually go two meetings, and make them quality with spuikers etc, I could be wrong though. Not a bad thing at all! There's easily enough interest to put on two a year - we just don't want to overload anyone, so thought alternate would be good.
If we have enough volunteers :helpsmilie: to make it happen, and locations, we're happy to support two. :clap: |

Will be back in Melbourne in late November and hopefully my bike will get there in late December if all goes well with the importation.
I'm happy to volunteer my time to help out with a meeting. Thorougly enjoyed the one in NC in September. |

Since these post in 2010, there have been some developments: I've been nominated to organise the 2011 HUTM in QLD and completed some work. I sent out an email via the Brisbane HU Community list, but dod not think to post here, at least not until now anyhow. So here is a copy of the email I sent out to the Brisbane HU Community: ================================================== ========= Hello Everyone I've received a great response already in one day. Here are some more details: Location: Dayboro showgrounds Memorial Showgrounds MT Mee Road, Dayboro The Dayboro Show Society Date: Friday 17 June 2011 to Sunday 17 June 2011 Some setup on Friday, festivities start Friday afternoon or evening - no schedule has been set yet. If people start arriving early, there is an onsite caretaker who can direct them to their own private patch of heaven. Facilities at the showgrounds: Camping with powered and un-powered sites The website says that the camping costs (per night) are: $10 Powered Site (2 adults) $7 Non-Powered Site (2 adults) $3 each for additional campers per night BUT I want to confirm the price for non-powered sites We will be hiring the pavilion for the seminars etc, so there is no need to set up a marquee etc. The pavilion does have a kitchen as well, but the kitchen may be used by the catering, so some details to be worked out there. Toilets and showers on the showgrounds. There are only three male and three female showers though, so there could be a line-up at times. Catering: At this stage - my thoughts only - I think what was done in 2010 is a good model. Catered on Saturday night dinner and Sunday morning breakfast and the rest is self catering. The Dayboro show society can do this for us at a good price but I would like to form a committee for this whole event and seek some feedback. Local Area Facilities: Within walking distance Dayboro Pub IGA Supermarket Coffee Shop Bakery Petrol Station and general store General Practice, but I don't know what the opening times are Within 30 minutes ride/drive Petrie, Kallangur, Lawnton and Strathpine shopping areas D'Aguliar Pub and General Store across the top of Mount Mee, but I'm not sure if this is an easy 30 minutes, never timed it before. Petrie markets in Pioneer Village are on Sunday morning and should be interesting to some. Pioneer Village Country Music Club quite often have some good acts Pioneer Village Country Music Club Costs: Other than the cost of the camping, there are costs for HU, shirts, catering etc, similar to 2010. I've got a draft document and thought that it would be best to check that I am on the right track with the committee. Alcohol: BYO, no licence Charity: All HUTM raise funds for a selected charity. I would like this to be AngelFlight, if this is AOK? Committee: So this is the part where we need to start organising a bit. I've never done this sort of thing before, so feel free to jump in anytime. I think we need a committee with members to organise: Presenter liaison - someone to liaise, organise and schedule in the various presenters? Accommodation Co-ordinator - As there is no hotel/motel style accomodation on-site and for some people this is important, we need someone to build list of accommodation alternatives in teh nearby area such as the various B&Bs on Mount Mee, what does the Dayboro Pub offer etc? Volunteer coordinator. We'll need volunteers to 'man the gate' and collect cash, distribute wristbands etc Media Liaison. - Someone to write press releases and contact the appropriate media, such as Australian Road Riders, Trail Bike Adventure Magazine perhaps. Auctioneer. - Normally there is an auction to raise funds for a selected charity, so we need someone who can do a good job of this. Vendor Liaison. - Someone who can act as a single point of contact for vendors who want to come and display their products. Some work has been started with this and plenty more left to do. Rides. - Craig Iedema has put his hand up to creating an off-road loop. There are a number of good on-road and off-road rides in the area, so perhaps we could either have some maps or even some organised rides or both. For Sale / Swap / Give Away board. I guess the next step is to start building the list of volunteers and perhaps get together, maybe even ride out or meet out there. Regards, Shane |

Dates are now SET - 17-19 June.
Sorry for the confusion - seems the fairgrounds were accidentally double booked and we lost, so had to move it back a week. And I forgot to update this thread :( Hope it works ok for everyone! have fun, :mchappy: and I wish I could be there! But Germany to Aus to UK in 3 weekends seems a bit ambitious! |

Meeting
This thread appears to be seriously quiet for a hu meeting only a month away, I have been asked a couple of times is it still on ?
I myself unfortunately will not be there as I will be back in Africa, but usually this close to a meeting there is quite a bit of banter "who will be there, who will not, who are the speakers etc" any up dates ? I suppose registration is now open and Grant could advise us on the strength of interest shown there I suppose. Remember we must get behind and support these events, I have been to 2 and had a great time at both !!!!:D |

Monday morning has been set aside for cleaning up and clearing out. If people start arriving early, there is an onsite caretaker who can direct them to their own private patch of heaven and if it is not raining, it is a great spot. Payment is strictly cash and correct money would be a great help. We are hiring the pavilion for the presentations etc. The pavilion does have a kitchen as well, but the kitchen may be used by the catering on Saturday afternoon and evening and Sunday Morning, so some details to be worked out there. Toilets and showers on the showgrounds. There are only three male and three female showers though, so there could be a line-up at times. Other Accommodation: There is a range of other accommodation available and I've included a sample in the attached document. It is not a complete list, just the ones I could find. Catering: As part of your registration, you can indicate your catering preferences for Saturday night dinner and Sunday morning breakfast. The rest, as some would say, is self-catering, but there is a nice kitchen available. There are a number of local shops etc to select from as well. Numbers: This is the first year in this location and with this team of volunteers, so number is capped to 200. Very much a story about the people we met! Luke Steele - London to Capetown 2009, 3 Kiwis down the West Coast of Africa on XTZ/R John Skillington & Alanna Skillington -Long-term travelling: a discussion of things to consider at home and on-the road. Danielle Murdoch - Discussion with Danielle currently on the road somewhere in Pakistan or Iran – if we can make the connection! |

I forgot yesterday to mention Dr Peter Nelson, a GP with a wealth of experience in casualty and has travlled extensively across Australia via 4WD. Peter will be showing some essential kit and techniques for us. |
I've been away for a week, but see that there hasn't been any questions, so hopefully we are all squared away for 17-19 June 2011.
I guess that we will be setting up from 10:00 Am on Friday 17 June, so anyone who wants to help, I'll be there from then. We will need a hand putting out some signs from the highway and the Petrie - Dayboro roads. Dorothy will be organising the gate/desk. We will also needs some volunteers on Saturday night and Friday morning to help with the meals I think. So you all in a fortnight!! |
As of right now - 7 June 2011 we have 70 confirmed registrations! This is great.
The Dayboro show society have asked for firm numbers by Tuesday 14 June 2011 for catering fro Saturday Dinner and Sunday Breakfast. There will be some capacity for extras, but not much. So if you are thinking about coming, particularly also thinking about the yummy cooked dinner and breakfast, jump on the registration page ASAP. Looking forward to see you all there. |

bying a bike in Australia

Abouth going around,I shipped my Harley to Australia last year,started in Melbourne on September the 1st,went to Adelaide,Alice Springs,Darwin,Broome,Perth,Nullarbor,back to Adelaide,and inland to Bourke,and Townsville,Brisbane,Sydney,and back to Melbourne,on Januari the 12th,I brought my bike back to Sydney to ship it back to Barcelona (Spain) where I pick ,m up next week. I did 25.000km in 4,5 months,and had 3 days of rain:stormy:,1 in West Australia,1 in Queensland,and 1 in New South Wales? I had temperatures between 8°C(in the morning in Melbourne) till 44°C:Beach: in Fitzroy Crossing. So if you be gone in Darwin before the wet season starts,you don,t have any problem. Thanks.
